Nadia Herman Colburn will introduce a reading and discussion of the poets Afaa
Weaver (The Plum Flower Dance, U Pittsburgh Press, 2007), Erica Funkhouser
(Earthly, Houghton Mifflin, 2008), and Maggie Dietz (Perennial Fall, U Chicago
Press 2006). The poets will read from their work and discuss the relationship
between poetry and the natural world. Faced with ecological devastation,
species extinction, climate change and toxic waste, how does the poetic
imagination influence the choices we make and help effect change?
